We love it when rare, early US Military firearms arrive. This Springfield Armory 1903 is no exception! Just arrived is a pre-WWI Springfield Armory 1903! The serial number, 4578xx dates the receiver to approximately January 1911, and barrel is marked/dated to 12/10 (Dec 1910). This is a perfectly correct pairing of barrel and receiver. The rifle comes with a correct "S" stock with milled barrel bands, trigger group and floor plate. The bore is a 4 groove rifling with a good, clean bore. The rifle metal finish is original, and the stock is marked CHES. The best we can come up with on this proof is likely Cheshire Regiment of the British Army, which were foot soldiers, originally established in late 19th century, through WWI, WWII, etc until 2007. The rear sight is correct with proof mark "C". The only thing we can see that is not period correct is the front sight protective hood, marked "R" for Remington. This is an excellent opportunity to own a fine example of a pre-WWI rifle, likely used during WWI by British foot soldiers!
