Just arrived is a piece of history! This is a US Harpers Ferry, pattern of 1842, with lock date of 1848. The date 1848 would put this musket at the end of the Mexican American War, just after Texas had become a Republic and after the annexation of Texas into the United States. The musket is .69 smoothbore with VP eagle proof on the barrel, three barrel bands and two single sling swivels. The overall condition of the metal is patina with mild pitting near the hammer and cap area, and the action functions as designed, however there are a few light dings on the barrel, including near the muzzle area. The stock shows an old repair at the wrist with brass pins, but there is not a visible cartouche on the stock and the ramrod does not go all the way down.
